IF ONLY I HAD A RICH FATHER…

Life has a simple rule. Like attracts like. Abundance attracts abundance. What does that mean? Can this law also have tragic implications? Yes, here is one. I can’t be materially abundant until I am materially abundant to begin with.

Assuming I don’t have enough money, it makes a vicious circle for me; it’s a trap, an unjust one. It’s like saying that money builds on money. That’s what our fore fathers told us too. But well where do I get the first chunk of money to begin with? Who will gift me the first chunk, the seed money? If only I had a rich father…

It’s like a fresher hunting for a job. Every door he knocks for an interview, he is rejected because he doesn’t have experience. And how on Earth will he gather experience if he doesn’t land up with a job in the first place, the job that has been denied to him simply because he lacks experience. It’s like trying to pull yourself up with your boots, a lost cause, doomed to fail.

What’s the way out? Is there a way out in the first place? Thankfully there is. Let’s look at the conundrum again ‐ In order to attract big money, You need big money to begin with. But you feel you don’t have enough money. This is where the trick lies. Who says that the money you have is not big enough? Big or small, less or more are subjective calls. Our subconscious mind that creates our physical universe doesn’t understand the concept of scale.

So the trick lies here ‐ can you get yourself in a state where whatever you have, itself seems like ‘more’ to you? Can you get into a state of ‘contentment’ (and not complacency)? This is what all true spiritual masters have always told us, haven’t they? They have always preached contentment with one’s lot before striving for more.

So if you can station yourself in contentment, you are telling existence that you are already materially abundant. You are telling existence that you don’t need further abundance. It’s another thing that you don’t mind having it and that you might relish it should it come to you. But you sure as hell don’t need it desperately.

And once you are in this frame of mind, the famous law sets in ‐ one of my personal favorites ‐ the law of reverse effect (the law of Vairagya or detachment that our Rishis taught us). Trust me it’s far more effective than the law of attraction. It’s like the case of chasing a butterfly. Run after it, it will fly away faster. Sit back and let it know that you don’t care; it will come and sit on your shoulder. Ditto with money. Give it a shot. You will be surprised, pleasantly surprised.

You will then no longer brood over not having a rich father. You will see your father however he is, to be rich as well. And this itself will land you into far greater riches.
